Yesterday as I looked over a couple of the mountain ranges that surround my beautiful hamlet…my thought was ‘What the heck is wrong with the mountains?’ After a few minutes I realized that the diseased looking yellow/brown/red spots of the mountain were the symptoms of autumn. (Now that I know what it is, it is quite pretty) It seems like just last week I was complaining about how stinkin’ hot it is and now I’m wishing I had grabbed a sweater and am having to turn on the car’s heater in the morning. It’s that time of year again, the early morning air is crisp, the days are shorter and the trees are starting to shed. It’s fall once again! I don’t know what it is about this time of year, but I just love it. So, I decided I would compile a few of my favorite things (now as I am writing this Julie Andrews is singing in my head) about fall.
1.HALLOWEEN!! This is definitely one of my top five favorite holidays (After Christmas, Thanksgiving, my birthday…which I totally consider a holiday, and flag day…okay, maybe before Flag Day but a definite toss up for the 4th of July). I love dress up and honestly how often do we get to play dress up as adults? By the way, I have changed my costume once again and yes…I did start planning my costume in August…I even started sewing it last month!!! Plus how great is it that we can legally petition complete strangers for candy and fully expect to get some?!! Whoever thought of this holiday was a GENIUS!
2.The shorter days…I like waking up when it’s still dark and being able to stay up for hours in the dark. I totally sound like a vampire person but I can’t stay up late or wake up too early (it sounds like someone won’t let me, but honestly I’m too tired and can’t handle it and you do NOT want to be around me when I need some sleep).
3.The smell…Am I the only one who loves the early morning smell of the air when it’s fall? It reminds me of being a kid and standing at the bus stop. I’m a little surprised that this is a positive memory, because honestly I wasn’t a fan of going to school most of the time.
4.Fall TV programming!!! I’m totally a dork but I love TV and enjoy living vicariously thru fictional characters…lets be honest, I know I will never get to really experience West Beverly Hills High School or be able to investigate any sort of crime (thank goodness) but I can enjoy the fake reality world of television.
5.College football! I don’t claim to be a football aficionado, but I am a Cougar thru and thru. I can’t help but get excited for the thrill of victory! I am also one of those nuts who screams and yells at the top of my lungs at any sporting event I attend (even the ones that I only marginally understand). I do however understand football thanks to my uncle Tommy for explaining it my freshman year and taking my to my very first Cougar football game!
I just love so many things about fall. So, tell me what are some of your favorite things about fall?....And GO COUGARS!!!!

I too really enjoy fall. As you can tell on the pictures i took last weekend. And fall really does have a smell all it own. I was thinking that the other day also about the smell thing, although it dont remind me of those times we had to stand and wait for that bus(or chase after it).You know when ever i think of the bus stop thing i remember when grandma was staying with us while mom was in the hospital and it was cold, we wanted her to wait outside with us but she said(I'll freeze my butt off, wouldn't i look funny with out a butt.) Anyways fall is great and i love it although it is still to hot. You know Tommy took me to a couple of those games they were so fun. We even got rained on one time and still had fun. I wish i had a reason to dress up i think it would be so fun. You should have made me a costume too. love bye
I LOVE the fall also! My favorite thing is the cool fall mornings and evenings and the smell also! I love the changing colors, getting to wear winter clothes, just everything! AHHHH I wish it would stay longer!
I really have a great time dressing up for Halloween, and the crazier the costume the more fun I have. I think the fall time is just a great time of year. The holidays have you remembering the past, and the time of year has you looking forward to new things to come. I think the greatest thing about the fall time UNIVERSITY OF UTAH FOOTBALL BABY!!! Did you see that game against Oregon State? The pain train is coming cougs! WHOO WHOO! Maybe you can blame Tommy for not taking me to a cougar game when I was young but it should be a wild end this year!
OK- who let the Ute comment? J/K Jared- congrats on the OSU win (whew that was close). I should have taken you to a Cougar game.
I love the fall the most, too. It is by far my favorite season. Joshua won his first football game last night and it was so great to see that. I golfed for a hospital event this morning and it was PERFECT outside. Loved it.
As for that pain train, it is the Utes that had better invest in advil, cuz they will be nursing that end of year beat down soon enough.
Anyway- Amanda, I am happy to have laid a good foundation for your fandom.
Great blog as always
We love BYU as well, but you already know that!!! Hey how can I convince you to come and stay Christmas with me. Tyler is deploying and it would be so much fun. Think about it!
Hey Amanda,
We love fall out here because there are so many fun places to go. We get to go to the mountains to see all the fall colors and pick apples and pumkins. We also love fall because it gets us excited to go snowboarding.
