Okay, so we all have our celebrity crushes…some a little more strange and disturbing than others. I think this is because they give us an outlet from our humdrum lives of normalcy to the exciting world of fake dreams and unrealistic expectations. The return of the ‘New Kids on the Block’ has sparked a debate between me and my good friend Cecilia. Most gals from my generation know what this debate is, it usually goes something along the lines of …I love Donnie…I love Joey…etc. This was a common theme of conversations throughout my elementary recess time. With the return of this boy band (why do they call it a band when none of them even pretend to play an instrument?...I suppose that’s one for the philosophers) many of these old conversations are reemerging. I will take a moment now (even though I know I may lose a few readers due to this admission) to note the fact that I do not love any of the New Kids (Or should say Old kids) and have been vehemently opposed to their regime since the playground days. Cecelia, on the other hand, (who knows my of my indifference to NKOTB and yet we remain friends) is mad about Danny…don’t worry, I’m sure her husband is aware of this obsession. Now, to me Danny in his younger days looked like a gorilla but now looks like a Ken doll who has had his face melted ever so slightly. Of course I can’t tell on her without telling on myself. I love Dwayne Johnson and LL Cool J and actually carry on an unhealthy obsession of my own. (My dad actually called me on DJ's b-day...we celebrated by going out to dinner...we were going to take a cut-out of him with us but figured other people would be perturbed by our craziness...not something I usually put on display...but sometimes I just can't hide it). We both have a thing for quirky British actors (which is some kind of inexplicable thing…I think there must be something hypnotic about a foreign accent) and also for Anderson Cooper (maybe it the silver hair and fact that his teleprompter makes him sound incredibly smart).
Although I enjoy the secret obsessions (totally could be the name of a fragrance) of celebrity crushes, there is one thing that I can not tolerate….celebrities who think their opinion is more important than mine. I consider myself relatively well educated and informed. Just because you are rich and have chosen to give up your privacy for the sake of wealth…you don’t get to choose what I think about things!! Okay…that was a bit too serious…but that is my rant today.
So…tell me who your celebrity crush is…Or you can leave me silly NKOTB lyric...'Ahh it's so crazy, you're like baby, I'm like Swayze" (from the song Dirty Dancing...no joke)...

I think a gorilla and a melted ken doll make a very attractive man! I will love Danny Wood till the day I die! So here is one of my favorie lyrics: Ho, ho, ho, oh, little train, my little elf, another great Christmas.
Ah, man, it's boring, it's boring, same thing every year,
so let's have a funky Christmas!
Have a funky funky Christmas, have a funky funky Christmas.
New Kids On The Block, let's rock, it's Christmas time.
We're gonna celebrate it with a rhyme.
Danny D, are you ready? - Ready as I'll ever be
Steady - you know, Joey Joe is ready
Jordan and Jon, yeah, come on, we got a funky, funky Christmas going on.
Have a funky...
Funky Christmas and a funky new year, I swear we got ourselves a party here
Girls on the floor knows our posse at the door
Should I stop - nah cool - here's more of this song, a funky Christmas melody
'cause Jordan K feels so Christmasy
Throw your hands in the air pause, kick the ballistics Santa Claus
Have a funky...
Sneaking downstairs on Christmas Eve
I saw a sight that you just wouldn't believe
St. Nick by the fireplace dusting off his head with a frown on his face
He said hay - said what - he said you - I said what
He said you left the fire burning and I burnt my butt
so now I've learned you've got to turn the fireplace down
so Santa won't get burned
Have a funky...
Have a funky...
Slipping and sliding through the city streets
I'll be in town getting down to the Christmas beat
it's Danny D I'm here with Christmas cheer
no feeling to end the party of the year
it's going I'm showing fresh rhymes I'm throwing
it's snowing outside but we ho-ho-hoing
Santa's on the way, sleigh bells are ringing, swinging, everybody start singing
Have a funky....
It's Christmas, can you swing this?
Funky, dope jam top on your Christmas list, do you dig this?
Boy, there ain't no twist, just something you wish for and you almost missed huh
Funky Christmas and a Happy New Year, how could you be booing it
with Donnie D doing it?
Have a funky....
Ho, ho, ho, this is the MC Santa Claus and my elf little Joe
Yeah, merry Christmas, merry Christmas, we gonna kick the ballistics
of our Christmas wishes.
Just a little sample from their wonderful christmas album. That is all we will be listening to in our office at christmas so I suggest you learn it!!
OK- I am officially OLD- not only did I not know the NKOTB part 1, I did not know there was even a redux. I am very musically challenged any way. (Now if you want me tom comment on an amazing chord change and key step of a Mack Wilberg arrangement of a MOTAB song- I will be glad to oblige.-- Told you I was OLD).
Tommy
I think you and I would have a fight over DJ. He's the perfect man. But I'm happy with Vin Diesel as well. Tim has no idea why I hate most action movies, except the ones that those two are in. I also recently saw a Prison break commercial and decided I needed to start watching that show for muscled out studs as well. I however, have no love lost for NKOTB. I missed that fad I guess. Oh and I think you love Anderson Cooper becuase you remember him from way back when Chanel 1 was a daily school requirement. I know that's why I dig him.
To start off, I am a little too young for NKOTB, I did have their lunchbox in kindergarden. But, their reunite did nothing for me. I am a bit confused why they are trying to appeal to young teenage girls, again, while their kids watch from stage right. As for my celb. crushes I would have to agree with Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson, but if Amanda gets him I'll take his cousin Tanoi Reed. DJ's stunt double and an American Gladiator. I would add to that list, Orlando Blum and Johnny Depp. Who can resist a pirate?
Ok so I was one of theose girls at recess in love withe NKOTB!!!! I even had a shirt with all their faces on it that I wore like everyother day! SERIOUSLY! I don't remember the lyrics to the songs but do remember the christmas song above and Hangin'Tough! Such cheesy songs!
As for my celebrity crush, it would have to be Tim Mcgraw! I love his music and his movies! but also mathew McConaughey! That is all I need to say about him! And yes Donald knows about them! He too has a celebrity crush-Sandra Bullock! He might kill me for telling you that but oh well! Love ya!
Not too big on the Whole New Kids thing, but I am a huge fan of McDreamy!!!
Hey sis,
I also remeber the NKOTB. Can't remember really enjoying there music. The only song i do remember of theirs is Hangin' Tough. I couldn't believe it when i say the poster at Wal-Mart that they were back. My question is WHY?
I have many celeb crushes. Matthew McConaughey is one of the best. I love the voice. DJ is very hot too the smile could make any girl melt. If you have DJ and Bettie get the cousin i will have very good looking nieces and nephews. Love you!
La la la la la la to-night! Okay those where my lyrics for you. I had a friend in 5th grade that went to NKOTB's concert and brought their picture to school and would kiss it! She was obbsessed! We all thought that Danny looked like a monkey. Now I see that so did lots of other little girls. I do admit to talking about them at recess along with Vanilla Ice, who we all thought was soooooo hot!
